1944

The origin of Lanificio Bisentino

In 1944, brothers Guglielmo and Mario Gramigni founded Lanificio Bisentino together with their cousin Rolando Nincheri. In the early days, Lanificio Bisentino produced military textiles and blankets, like many other textile manufacturers in Prato in the 20th century.
1960S-70s

The rise of fashion

These were the birth years of the fashion industry and the second generation of the Gramigni family shifted production towards carded fabrics for womenswear.
1980s

Launching new fibres

Lanificio Bisentino was the first company to pioneer the carded spinning of mohair fibres, which became its signature material.
1983

The beginning of accessories production

Lanificio Bisentino founded Ellebi Italia, the first company in the Prato district to produce textile accessories, in particular scarves.
1990s

Art&Innovation

At the end of the 1990s, for Lanificio Bisentino it was common practice to hire photographic artists to create unique images to accompany the launch of each collection at different trade fairs.
1999

The spinning division

Lanificio Bisentino took over the majority share of Filatura di Spicciano, of which it now owns 72%.  The majority of the carded yarns used by Gruppo Bisentino are currently spun at Filatura di Spicciano.
Since 2000

The third generation

The third generation of the Gramigni family, namely Giovanni Gramigni – CEO, Giuditta Gramigni – Sales Director, Guido Gramigni – Creative Director, joined the management of Gruppo Bisentino.
2019

Foundation of Manifattura BIG

The merger of Ellebi Italia and Gibiwear (an historical scarf company from Prato) gave rise to Manifattura Big, whose textiles accessories production is marked by creativity, research and the use of fine fibres.
2024

Beside Programme Launch

The Beside Programme is the new service developed by the Bisentino Group to support fashion brands adopting circular business models.
2025
